By Jean-Claude Grumberg

an English version by Amy Rosenthal

Directed by Rosamunde Hutt

Presented by MFA Acting (International)

It is 1945. Paris has just been liberated and Leon and Helene have recently reopened a tailors workroom in their apartment. The seamstresses and pressers they employ have survived the traumas of World War II and spend their working hours arguing, laughing, celebrating and grieving. Most are looking forward with hope to a new future, but guilt, loss and painful memories are always near the surface. On the day in which the play begins, Simone joins the workroom. She is looking after her two young children single-handedly after her husband was sent to the death camps. Poignant and passionate the play is peppered with haunting French songs.

This version was first presented at the GBS Theatre, RADA on 20th October 2010.
